Refugees bobbing around in rickety boats—or crossing cold mountain passes in dire straits wearing sandals—they regularly make the media.
As if those storms at sea or in the mountains weren't fierce enough, they also endure media storms, but always as 'the refugee,' as an anonymous 'fact.' Even though they are people, damn it, with a story. Often a particularly intense story.
The storyteller in me gets very rebellious about that, so I created this automaton featuring 'anonymous' refugees who just keep on fleeing. And yes, for anyone who doesn't want to see the human side of their refugee story, I've simply turned it into a wink to 'more famous' outcasts.
